Santa Cruz, CA – Professional triathlete Kelsey Withrow of Pleasant Hill raced her way to a third place finish in this year’s Ironman Santa Cruz 70.3. The swim portion of the race was shortened to 750 meters due to heavy fog off Cowell Beach but the shorter course didn’t stop Withrow who came out of the water first in 11 minutes and 25 seconds. Several competitors were in close pursuit and Americans Liz Lyles and Linsey Corbin moved into the front on the bike. The two would remain out in front on the run as well and finished first and second. Withrow held off Great Britain’s Leanda Cave to capture the final podium spot in a time of 4:11:28.
Withrow’s finish in Santa Cruz was just the latest in a season full of podium finishes. In June she won Ironman 70.3 Victoria, in July she took top honors at 70.3 Ecuador, and she also had two second place finishes at 70.3 Palmas and 70.3 Qujing.
