"This Alcatraz clinic is especially created for triathletes wanting to practice the last leg of the swim portion of the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. This clinic does not take you out into the bay. Non-triathlon participants welcome!

This clinic lets swimmers practice the last half mile of the Escape swim leg. Coaches will be on hand to answer questions and give instruction regarding the water conditions both during the clinic and those to be expected on race day.

At 6pm, you will meet at the St. Francis Yacht Club parking lot at 99 Yacht Road, across from the Palace of Fine Arts. Bring 2 towels, warm clothes for afterwards, have your wetsuit on and be ready to swim. Bring your swim gear (insulating cap, earplugs, goggles, etc.) and warm tea or drink in thermos for after. We’ll provide you with a swim cap that you are required to wear over any others you may have."

"This is a clinic geared towards but not limited to triathletes to practice for the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. It is especially created for triathletes wanting to practice the swim portion of the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon. Swimmers will practice by the island and then be transported to St. Francis Beach to practice the last quarter mile landing.

Many swimmers who have trained with us during our clinics have reported better times in their competitions this year, plus they felt strong and confident during their race. Our regular Crissy Field clinics include a mile of open water swimming and instruction and advice from coaches. During our special event Alcatraz clinics, swimmers are transported to Alcatraz by boat. Once we arrive at Alcatraz the participants swim parallel to the island to experience sighting and feel the currents of the bay. After the swimmers return to the boat, they are taken to the potato patch where they can experience the rough water directly in front of Alcatraz.

This is very valuable experience so that on race day you don’t encounter an unwelcome surprise – you are ready! The last jump is usually near the destination of the race and swimmers practice their sighting, and “feel” the water near the finish. You will learn about the currents you might expect during your race and plan your route accordingly.

Upon request, our WWS coaches will critique your stroke and provide you with suggestions to make your stroke more efficient and faster. This is a wonderful experience with a great group of people in a non-competitive environment."

"This Alcatraz test swim is specially created for triathletes wanting to practice the swim portion of the Escape from Alcatraz Triathlon.  Unlike the clinic, at the test swim you will have the option to swim the whole course, or just parts of it.

These crossings from Alcatraz are recommended for those swimmers who have either taken the Water World Swim Alcatraz Swim Clinic or who feel confident and have had prior experience swimming in cool open water. Our crossings are supported by the best Water World Swim pilots. After a brief, but thorough discussion of the conditions of the bay during your crossing, we will jump from our boat, and swim toward our destination across the bay."

    Triathlon (Swim-Bike-Run) Training

It doesn’t matter if this is your 1st event or your 100th, you can always learn something new! If you answer yes to one or more of the questions below, then we can help!

    • Do you want to find out what really goes on during a triathlon before you commit and sign up?
    • Have you done a few events and are ready to learn more and go to the next level?
    • Are you looking to save time and set a PR at your next race?
    • Are you new to swimming and want to get faster, faster?
    • Are you nervous or anxious about open water swimming?
    • Are you getting back on the bike for the first time since you were a kid?
    • Do want to become a safer, faster and more efficient rider?
    • Do you need help getting the right gear for you and your experience level?

We will be covering all elements in triathlon with experienced coaches that specialize in each discipline around the sport of triathlon.  Swim, Bike, Run, Transitions, and Diet (Nutrition/Hydration) will all be covered in full but if you need guidance or want to get stronger in just one discipline then you can with the knowledge base from our coaches.

The coaches create a non-threatening environment with a no-nonsense approach. They understand limitations but through encouragement and tailored training, will build confidence to maximize goals. Optimal fitness is for everyone, whether you are a triathlete or just looking to improve your overall health.

Training clinis are designed to provide the participant with the skills and knowledge needed to successfully compete in a triathlon.  Clinics are held on actual USAP race venues allowing the participant to preview the course.

Triathlons not only require the athlete to know how to swim, bike and run but also how to successfully put these three sports together in succession. There is an art to doing this, which cannot be learned through training alone. The goal of the clinics is not to teach the participants how to swim, bike and run but to teach them these triathlon specific skills. The veteran instructors/coaches teaching the participants also provide a safe, non-competitive environment to practice the skills with immediate hands on feedback. In addition, with the clinics taking place on the USA Production race-courses you gain valuable course specific experience so you do not encounter surprises on race morning.
